No More SOPA - Android Barcode Scanner
Though No More SOPA is still being tweaked–Thompson admits it currently can’t give a definitive answer to whether about 40% of products have SOPA ties–it’s already been downloaded more than 2,000 times since it hit the Android market late last week, and Thompson says that rate is quickly accelerating. The next upgrade to the app, he says, will tell the user the exact relationship the product has to a SOPA supporting firm, and future versions will allow the user to check on a company’s stance on a wide range of issues, not just SOPA.

Barcode scanner types

Handheld scanners are very commonly used in checkout lines. These barcode scanners have a handle and a trigger button which when pressed will signal the LED or laser to take the reading of the item.

Pen-type Barcode Scanner - As the name goes, these barcode scanners resemble a ball pen and have a light source and a photo diode at the tip of the scanner. This method only has a LED light source and a sensor to capture its reflection. These types of scanner are widely used because they are less expensive and quite easy to maintain. The pen-type readers are available in different resolutions so as to read barcodes of different shapes and sizes.

Laser Barcode Scanner - The laser barcode scanner is similar to a pen-type barcode scanner in the manner of its working. Laser scanners obviously use laser beams as a source of light and reciprocating mirror or rotating prism for detecting the reflected light. Barcode Scanner Technology

Most people take barcode scanners and barcode readers for granted. It is pretty rare for anyone to think about how a simple sliding of a product across the scanner counter reacts with the name tag and the price of the product appearing on the monitor by just scanning through some weird label and a code that comes along with every product we purchase.
In order to understand how the above mentioned operation works, one definitely needs to understand how barcodes are generated and how they work to identify the product itself.
Barcode is nothing but information in coded form. This coded form is what we call as the barcode and every barcode is unique and it contains details about the particular product. This information is compressed, coded and printed at the back of the product using a special coding language. The scanner on the other hand reads through the bar codes and translates it to the system giving details about the product and its price which normal humans cannot understand or decipher.
This barcode language is also quite easy to understand actually. It is a combination of specific symbols which equals a series of bar lines. These bar lines come in short, long along with varying spaces between them. Every part of the collection of bar lines denotes number of characters depending upon the date the code was actually entered into the barcode software.In general Pos software has made life quicker and comfortable.
