A cash register is considered as dumb because of the following reasons:

• It tells you only how much money your business has taken.
• It can tell you that you took in $400 but it can’t tell you how much profit and worth it is.
• It can’t tell you which favor is more popular like either coke or Pepsi.

But, a computerized POS can instantly tell you that you have $400 in your cash drawer. It will tell you $350 of that $400 is profit. It tells you that your customers favor coke over Pepsi. It will also tell you what items you should order today because your stock is too low.

 While cash registers are improving they are still being out placed by the rapid growth of Point of sale systems.
